Flowers in India are not just decorative—they are woven into daily rituals, traditions, and emotions. From jasmine strands adorning hair to marigold garlands in temples, flowers are a part of everyday life. Yet, despite their ubiquity, the traditional flower market has remained largely unchanged for decades, plagued by inefficiencies and wastage.

This is where Hoovu Fresh, founded by sisters Yeshoda Karuturi and Rhea Karuturi, steps in. With deep roots in floriculture and a vision to modernize the traditional flower supply chain, Hoovu Fresh is transforming how Indians interact with flowers.

The Idea Behind Hoovu Fresh

The sisters grew up on floriculture farms, witnessing firsthand the evolution of the cut-flower industry. Their father, who started a rose farm in 1994, expanded operations to India, Ethiopia, and Kenya, even building the world’s largest rose farm in Kenya.

While bouquet flowers became a global business, Yeshoda and Rhea noticed something striking: most Indians don’t buy bouquets. Instead, they use traditional flowers daily—for prayers, festivals, and personal adornment. Despite this massive demand, the supply chain was fragmented, unorganized, and wasteful, with up to 40% of flowers discarded before reaching consumers.

Hoovu Fresh was born to solve this problem. By partnering with farms, reducing turnaround times, and innovating packaging, the brand has extended flower shelf life by 2x to 5x, ensuring fresher blooms reach customers faster.

Founders’ Journey

  • Yeshoda Karuturi holds a Master’s in Accounting and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Washington University in St. Louis. As Executive Director at Karuturi Global, she managed overseas operations and built scalable agricultural businesses in Ethiopia.
  • Rhea Karuturi graduated from Stanford University with a degree in Science, Technology, and Society. With experience in media and communication, she worked at publications like Times of India and Deccan Herald, bringing storytelling and brand-building expertise to Hoovu Fresh.

Together, they combined their agricultural knowledge and entrepreneurial spirit to modernize India’s flower industry.

Hoovu Fresh’s Innovation

  1. Reduced Turnaround Time – Flowers reach customers within 12–24 hours of harvest.
  2. Extended Shelf Life – Packaging innovations keep flowers fresh for days instead of hours.
  3. Farm Partnerships – Direct collaboration with growers ensures fair practices and better quality.
  4. Customer-Centric Approach – Meeting the everyday needs of Indians who use flowers like milk or newspapers.
  5. Sustainability – Reducing wastage across thousands of acres of flower cultivation.

Impact

Hoovu Fresh is not just about selling flowers—it’s about reshaping an industry. By streamlining supply chains and empowering farmers, the brand is reducing waste, improving livelihoods, and ensuring customers receive fresher, longer-lasting flowers.

Their work highlights how innovation can revive traditional practices, making them relevant and sustainable in today’s fast-paced world.

Conclusion

From rose farms in Kenya to temple flowers in India, the journey of Yeshoda and Rhea Karuturi reflects a deep love for floriculture and a bold vision for change. Hoovu Fresh is more than a flower brand—it is a movement to modernize tradition, reduce waste, and bring freshness to millions of homes.
