In India, clothes are never just garments. They carry stories—of traditions, festivals, and memories passed down through generations. Yet, as life has become faster, people began searching for outfits that are not only traditional but also comfortable enough for everyday wear.

This is where Farida Gupta, the eponymous label founded by Farida Gupta, found its space. The brand beautifully blends India’s rich craftsmanship with modern simplicity, creating pieces that feel both rooted and relevant.

The Idea Behind Farida Gupta

The brand didn’t begin as a business plan—it started with a deep love for Indian textiles. India has always been home to incredible craftsmanship, from block prints to hand embroidery, but many of these art forms were fading into the background.

Farida Gupta wanted to change that. She believed that traditional crafts shouldn’t just be preserved in museums—they should be worn, lived in, and appreciated every day. By bringing these techniques into modern designs, her label makes heritage effortless and wearable.

Super Founder’s Journey

Farida’s journey is deeply personal. In the late 1990s, she began from her home in South Delhi with just two artisans and a sketchpad. Teaching them embroidery in her living room, she realized the immense potential of India’s crafts.

Her passion led her across rural India, connecting with artisans and learning their skills. For years, she lived out of a suitcase, traveling between exhibitions and villages, determined to bring these crafts to light.

In 2011, she officially launched her label, channeling her creativity into a brand that not only designed clothes but also created employment opportunities for artisans.

A turning point came in 2016 when her son, Sahil Gupta, joined the business. He digitized the brand, expanding its reach and giving Farida’s creative vision a modern platform. Within a year, the brand was recognized as India’s Most Innovative SMB on Digital (2017). Today, over 1,000 artisans from Rajasthan and Gujarat are employed, alongside 300 women employees, with a goal to empower 10,000 artisans and 5,000 underprivileged women by 2028.

Founder – Farida Gupta

Farida Gupta is the heart of the brand. Drawn to the radiance of colors and intricacy of patterns from a young age, she pursued her true calling after balancing motherhood and part-time designing. With a post-graduation from Jawaharlal Nehru University, she combined academic rigor with creative passion to build her label.

Her vision has always been simple: 👉 To make traditional Indian wear feel easy, elegant, and relevant for everyday life.

Sahil Gupta – Driving Growth & Digital Expansion

Sahil Gupta brought entrepreneurial energy to the brand. By digitizing operations and focusing on customer experience, he helped scale the label nationally and globally. His efforts ensured artisans received recognition and sustainable livelihoods, while customers enjoyed seamless shopping experiences.

Looking Ahead

In a world dominated by fast fashion, Farida Gupta stands for something slower, more thoughtful, and more meaningful. The brand envisions itself as a global leader in Indian ethnic wear, staying true to its values while embracing technology to reach wider audiences.

By focusing equally on artisans and customers, the label continues to grow while preserving India’s heritage.

Conclusion

Farida Gupta is more than a fashion label—it’s a movement to revive and celebrate India’s handcrafted heritage. Through her vision and Sahil’s entrepreneurial drive, the brand has become a symbol of empowerment, sustainability, and timeless design.
